We are delighted to announce the launch of “Animation Magic,” a powerful new educational program developed by the team here at Alchemy VFX. For over two decades, we have been crafting professional visual effects for video games. Now, we are bringing that industry expertise directly to youth in B.C., creating a pathway for the next generation of creative talent. We invite parents and schools to learn more about this exciting new offering.
What is Animation Magic?
“Animation Magic” is a new educational program focused on story-driven animation and visual effects (VFX) design. The program gives participants hands-on experience as they learn to craft their own version of a wizard spell casting 3D animation. They will learn to develop a character’s look, design the environment including use of lighting, and apply ‘spell book’ recipes to build different magic visual effects.
Created by professionals in VFX and game development, the curriculum uses our industry experience to teach students core concepts:
- Applied Artistry: Students explore timeless artistic principles applied to modern 3D Animation, and are introduced to the creation of real-time visual effects for video games.
- Real-World Skills: Students go behind the scenes in creative tech to experience the process of crafting a 3D animated short. We take them through the design process from story and character concepting to ultimately creating an animation that looks polished and professional – something that they are proud to share with family and friends.
- Curriculum Alignment: Workshop activities also align with BC’s Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) Curriculum, with a focus on designing thinking principles, the acquisition of skills, and the application of technologies.
Who is this program for?
“Animation Magic” is designed specifically for youth in the 10–14 age group.
This camp is ideal for artistic, creative kids who love animation, video games and magic, and who are interested in creating stories, art, and visual effects. The goal is to encourage imagination and curiosity about the art of animation, and inspire kids to learn more about future career pathways in creative tech fields.
DigiCamp : Animation Magic
We are proud to announce our partnership with DigiBC and our participation in their DigiCamp program, allowing us to offer Animation Magic completely free of charge to a limited number of students in 2026. DigiCamps will be the premier launch of Animation Magic in BC, supporting us to bring this new DigiCamp program to communities across BC.
This opportunity is made possible thanks to a major multi-year investment by Netflix in partnership with DigiBC. The collaboration is specifically designed to strengthen B.C.’s animation and visual effects (VFX) talent pipeline.
We will be starting DigiCamps from Victoria and Vancouver Island, watch this space for more updates on future locations.
